In and Out Burger- Special Sauce DIY Recipe
In-n-Out Burger
Totally craving an In-n-Out Burger? If you're like me and stuck on the East Coast and craving a juicey In-N-Out Burger then we'll have to re-create this deliciousness at home. First, let's dissect what's an In-N-Out cheeseburger: American cheese, 100% beef patty, fresh sliced onions, lettuce, tomato, and most importantly, their special secret sauce (a sauce that hasn't changed since 1948!). The sauce if you've never had it is like a Thousand Island'ish sauce, it's an orange and creamy, relish'y, tangy, and slightly sweet sauce.
*I made a vegetarian version of this too and it was amazing! Just swap out the beef patty with and Impossible meat patty (season patty with salt, black pepper and as per below), and use Vevan Ched-melts cheese and swap out mayo with vegan mayo!
Sauce ingredients:
1/2 cup regular Hellmans mayonnaise
3 tablespoons ketchup (up to 1/4 cup like tasty recipe)
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish (too sweet, use finely minced dill pickles instead)
3/4 teaspoons distilled white vinegar
Dash of salt
Dash of black pepper
1 tsp yellow mustard (added)
2 Tsp Yellow Onion, very finely minced
PREPARATION:
1. Sauce: Combine all the sauce ingredients in a large bowl and mix well until evenly mixed. Store in refrigerator for at least an hour (or overnight) before serving for best flavor.
2. Cook beef patties: Season beef patties with a little salt, pepper, and some yellow mustard. Fry on a lightly oiled pan for a couple minutes on high, flip, add cheese and cook for another min or so until done.
3. Heating buns: Toast the buns in pan with the splits sides down on a lightly oiled or buttered pan. Toast until warm and slightly browned, then remove from pan.
4. Assembly: Spread about 1 tablespoon of the special sauce on each side of the bun splits. Top with a couple pickles, hand leafed lettuce and tomato.
