Vietnamese Steamed Alaskan King Crab Legs With Garlic Butter Sauce
Looking forward to spending the weekend with our moms this weekend! To help celebrate, this was one of the cutest videos of my mom the other month. It was her first time eating King Crab Legs and it was so precious, I’ve never seen her so happy with food. Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday weekend and an early Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there!
These Alaskan King Crab Legs & Claws are so snow white and have a wonderful light sweetness to them. These are precooked and frozen so all you have to do is steam in salted water to defrost, and crack to eat them clean and pristine.
Typically boiled or steamed with an online preference of steaming them as the best way preserve its flavor and texture.
We filled 1/3 of a pot with water and added some sea salt and steamed for about 6 min.
We made two fresh dipping sauces including lemon with salt/pepper and butter with some fresh minced garlic and cilantro!
Alternately you can also boil your crab legs which I read you could simmer over medium heat for 6-8 min in salted water.
INGREDIENTS
1-3 lbs King crab legs (we got ours from Citarella, -here-)
1 tbs salt
1-3 cups of water
Dip #1: Vietnamese butter dip with minced garlic and chopped cilantro (just melt some salted butter and add minced garlic and some minced cilantro).
Dip #2: Fresh squeezed lemon juice with black pepper and salt (Squeeze about half a lime or lemon juice with about 1 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp fine black or white pepper).
PREPARATION
1. Upon receiving your crab legs, place the crab in your refrigerator to thaw overnight (8-12 hours) so it’ll be ready to cook the next day.
2. Place one to two cups of water and a tablespoon of salt in a pot and bring it to a boil. The pot should be about one-third of the way filled with water, if not add a couple cups of water until it is 1/3 filled.
3. Add crab legs in a collander or steaming basket/rack above water in your pot, cover, and steam for 5-7 minutes until heated through. When it starts to smell like steamed crab it's ready to go!
4. Transfer to cutting board and smash legs for easier eating.
